More information about this event

In July of 1789, the French people rose up from the streets of Paris and stormed the gates of the Bastille to overthrow the monarchy.  This exciting French revolution began the age of enlightenment and opened up a new world for France – and in fact, America, whose revolution around the same time was of the same philosophical and societal evolution.

Today, we let you eat cake – and a lot more as we take up the revolution ourselves and celebrate Bastille Day on French soil in the most elegant style yet!

On Saturday July 15, the Embassy of France will welcome Washingtonians to Bastille Day 2017 with a spicy gumbo of irresistible dance music and, as always, an exceptional selection of food prepared by the best local chefs.

Let's celebrate together the exceptional bond between the United States and France, and remember that the entry of the United States in WW1 commemorated this year, also brought a new type of sound, a new type of music to France. Since New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz and holds the title of the most francophone of the US cities, we will highlight this amazing city on the eve of its 300th birthday!
